The Lanier 2138 is a laser printer that offers both black and color printing. It boasts speedy output of up to 38 pages per minute in black and 28 pages per minute in full color. It is a single pass printer that has a very large footprint and is best in medium to large office environments.
It requires toner in four different colors– the usual black as well as cyan, yellow and magenta. There are four different cartridges, one for each color. Though this may seem like a lot of extra work, having separate cartridges for each color means money savings. You only replace the color that has run out instead of replacing all three colors at once like you would with many color inject cartridges.
The 2138 also features the ability to do booklets and a duplexer that allows for two-sided printing. There are even sorting and stapling options, making this one of the better options for busy workplaces that need a wide variety of business printing options.
As for graphics, the color printing is more than adequate but if you need really crisp color prints, you may be better off going to a print shop for them. On the other hand, the black makes very impressive copies and looks good in type that is as small as 4 points, which gives it versatility.
The overall size of the machine is large but it does many things that smaller printers simply can’t. With a full set of features and lightning fast printing for both color and black prints, one can overlook the massive footprint. There is a bit of a learning curve with the instructions but once you are familiar with this machine, it will become a vital part of the office place.
